Didi Mauthe mission of mau once upon a time there was a sculptor whO carved the sistine chapel out of a bar Of irish spring Soap. tO this day, although sounds and sights can be recorded, a smell cannOt be reCorded. but you can go to a store and buy a bar Of irish spring, and you can smell what the sculptor smelled. except, this was a long timE agO, and there was no such thing as soap. so the sculptor was asked about the sistine chapel which he had created from a bar of soAp that wAS not yet created. And he said, the chapel was always there I had to take away all of the extra soap. that wAs the sculptor's job and that is the the mission of mau to remove what is not yet there in order tO uncover what will be there. and then tO improvise on that As yet unknown soapy sculpture of sound and tO wash your filthy ears Out with it. |
Gallery on 43rd StreetLocated just off Butler Street in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Lawrenceville, Gallery on 43rd Street features fine art and craft by Western Pennsylvania artists. Owner Mary Coleman opened the gallery in November, 1994. A weaver since 1981, her woven rugs, placemats and table runners can be seen throughout the gallery. Browsing through the first floor of this 1881 house, you will see paintings by Ron Donoughe, Judy Mattei, Joseph Shepler, Linda Wallen and many others. Potters producing both decorative and functional work include Bob Bonnet, Marlene Boyle, Tracey Seder-Donoughe, Jim Reinicker, and Jim and Linda Winegar. Also on display are photographs by Scott Davidson and Dan Gaser, porcelain jewelry by Diane Wilson, tiles and trivets by Karen Howell, Duncan MacDiarmid and Red Clay Tile Works , blown glass by Raymond Nelson and mosaics by Stevo. |
